3rd National Meeting on Environmental Mass Spectrometry

11th - 12th April 2006

University of Chester, UK

www.analyticalmethodologycentre.co.uk

Programme
The Scientific Programme of the EMS2006 meeting extends over one and a half days and features environmental and food matrix analysis in four sessions. A fifth session has been organised as a forum/mini workshop. Four 30 minute keynote talks front up the four sessions and are presented by John Upton (Varian), Alan Herod (Imperial College), Chris Wright (Unilever) and Vic Parr (SAI). Two of the twelve 20 minute orals are presented by postgraduate student from Sheffield Hallam and York. Poster and exhibition sessions are also featured. The meeting is organised by the Environmental Mass Spectrometry Special Interests Group of the BMSS in conjunction with the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Chester and sponsored by the parent body, Avanstar (LC-GC Europe), SGE (Europe) and Varian. Detrmination of Light Isocyanates Produced by Thermal Degradation of Polyurethanes using LC/MS

MDHS 25/3 was developed for the analysis of the most common di-isocyanates and as routinely used will probably not be able to determine the "light" NCO. The work presented here describes the extension of MDHS 25/3 to include the use of triple quadrupole mass spectro-metric detection (MS) so enabling ...

The development of a method for imaging the distribution of agrochemicals in plants

The development of a method for imaging the distribution of mesotrione and azoxystrobin in the plant after foliar uptake is described. MALDI-TOF-MS images have been obtained using an Applied Biosystems/MDS Sciex Q-star pulsar i fitted with an orthogonal MALDI source and an Nd:YaG laser. Solutions of ...

Examination of isocyanate adducts of human serum albumin using matrix assisted laser desorption ionisation - mass spectrometry

Isocyanates are a group of highly reactive compounds which contain the NCO group. They are commonly found in many glues and spray paints. Even brief or low level exposure to these compounds has been implicated as a cause of occupational skin disease. This is because once sensitization occurs further ...

Analysis of gum arabic and gum tragacanth using GPC-MALLS

Gum arabic, a gum exudate from Acacia senegal and Acacia seyal, is an important hydrocolloid used in the food industry as an emulsifier, stabiliser and thickener. Gum arabic and gum tragacanth were analysed using GPC-MALLS to give information on molecular weight, molecular species distribution, radius ...

Increasing Throughput In Environmental Methods

Many environmental analyses as specified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) use gas chromatography as the analytical method. Due to the accumulation of these methods over years, many have long analysis times. These methods often take 30minutes per run, plus recycling time, leading to a sample ...

POROUS GRAPHTIC CARBON FOR THE SPE-LC/MS ANALYSIS OF POLAR MICRO POLLUTANTS IN ENVIRONMENTAL WATERS

Environmental protection is of increasing concern in many countries, with more legislation being introduced for maximum levels permitted for micro-pollutants in water, soil, etc. Very low detection limits (mg/L level and below) are required for monitoring organic compounds in drinking water which requires ...
